Designer Affair is operated by 24 year-old student and solo mother, Jacqui. Formerly known as Rent For A Cure, the business came about after years of friends, and friends of friends, borrowing my clothes. A push from my best friend was enough for me to give the rental business a go, now that I was a stay at home mum.
I'm currently studying towards my BBus in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations via correspondence with Massey. Once I have graduated I will further my education through a Diploma in Arts (Sociology) and a Diploma in Māori Knowledge so I can advocate for equal work opportunities and highlight the progress that still needs to be made in this area, with a focus on the impact of Social Enterprise.
When you rent from Designer Affair you're supporting a māmā support her tama. You're also supporting Jacqui's dream to help make a difference to people who need it through the charitable donations raised from each rental, all while you get to look and feel fabulous for your special event.
Renting is something I am passionate about, as it encourages circular fashion and reducing the amount of garment waste that end up in landfill each year from fast-fashion and from purchases people only wear once. All rentals are shipped in compostable R3pack mailers, contain a degradable cardboard return card and have no other ugly packaging. As consumers you have the power to decide the future of the fashion industry and encourage more eco-conscious shopping from your peers. Your consumer dollar is your voice, I encourage you to use it to support businesses, and the people behind them, who have business practices and values that align with your own.
Support small, shop local, reduce waste, look great every time and know you're making a difference with each outfit.
